Hedging

August 28th, 2010 Posted in CFDs, Forex, Personal Tags: , , , , , ,

Hedging is any strategy designed to offset or reduce the risk of price fluctuations for an asset or investment. Hedging should not be confused with hedge funds, which are private investment funds that often, but not always, employ hedging strategies.

When an investor buys or sells a security, the investor bets that the price of the investment will move in a certain direction. As with any bet, there’s always the risk of losing money if the price moves in the opposite direction. An investor hedges against this risk if he employs any tool or strategy that minimizes this risk. Ream more »

The History of CFDs

August 28th, 2010 Posted in CFDs, Personal Tags: , , , ,

CFDs were originally developed in the early 1990s in London. Based on equity swaps, they had the additional benefit of being traded on margin and being exempt of stamp duty, a UK tax. The invention of the CFD is widely credited to Brian Keelan and Jon Wood, both of UBS Warburg, on their Trafalgar House deal in the early 90s.

They were initially used by hedge funds and institutional investors to hedge their exposure to stocks on the London Stock Exchange in a cost-effective way.

The first company to do this was GNI (originally known as Gerrard & National Intercommodities); GNI touch is now owned by MF Global. They were soon followed by IG Markets and CMC Markets who started to popularise the product in 2000. Ream more »

Mister Indikator

DLL. Ream more »
